Hey there guys! I’m Rachelle
I’m the proud owner of RachelBakes and Rachel’s Kitchen welcome!
I’ve loved being in and around the kitchen for as long as I can remember. To me, there’s nothing better than a warm, freshly baked good homemade and full of love.
Growing up in a Surinamese household, food was everything. We cooked together, shared techniques, laughed, argued, celebrated and somehow, something as simple as food always brought everyone closer. Cooking was tradition, connection, and one of the most intimate things in our family.
My Journey in the Kitchen
I’ve always been intrigued by the art of creating whether it’s in the kitchen with savoury dishes or sweets, or behind the bar as a bartender or barista.
As I got older, that little nosy scientist–creator in me came out more and more. I experimented a LOT in my early years: cakes falling out of the oven, dishes too salty or too sweet, overbaked, underbaked, or tasting like absolutely nothing. I went through all the mistakes from microwave mug pizzas to bedroom chocolate mousse to collapsing cakes. I failed at everything before I succeeded.
But most importantly, I never stopped experimenting or trying to understand why things work the way they do.
Eventually, I started baking my own birthday cakes every year the same chocolate cake, made like my life depended on it. Later, I drifted more into savoury cooking: spring rolls, spaghetti, empanadas… the basics.
Until one day I thought: "Hey, let me start baking cupcakes again.”
I brought some to a friend at school who needed a little pick-me-up. That turned into baking for everyone, always bringing something sweet. I even made custom fortune cookies with fun questions instead of boring prompts connecting with people through treats.
The Mad Hatter of the Kitchen
My passion grew every single day. I finally started to understand the whats and the hows of baking, and I fell in love harder than I ever expected. Baking became a monthly thing, then bi-weekly, then daily. Soon, it was my favourite thing in life.
When I started working in hospitality, I’d bring new cupcake flavours to my coworkers every 2–3 weeks. Their feedback pushed me to try bolder, crazier flavour combinations. That became my joy creating, testing, learning, improving.
Somewhere in all of this experimenting the late-night baking disasters, the recipe breakdowns, the flavour madness keeping me awake. I started calling myself The Mad Hatter of the kitchen.
A little mad, a little chaotic, unapologetically myself, deeply passionate, forever curious, and always eager to learn how things work. Honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Why I Bake
As I got deeper into cakes and pastries, I realised something: the science behind baking DOES matter—and I actually love it.
I’m someone who expresses love by giving, especially through food. If I care about you (or if you simply look like you need it), I will literally feed you. Some of my baked goods became so popular with my friends and family that they kept begging me to bring more… not that they even had to ask.. I was going to anyway. 😂
Fast forward: I started my small business under the name RachelsBakedGoods, but it never felt like me. During my rebrand, I returned to the name I used in a school project: Rachel_Bakes. It feels like home like my beginning, my story, my roots.
The best way to describe my passion for cooking and baking? Remy from Ratatouille. That iconic strawberry-and-cheese scene? It’s engraved in my brain. That’s exactly how I experience flavours, new techniques, and new ideas.
RachelBakes Today
I have bigger dreams, hopes, goals, and plans for the future, but for now, Rachel_Bakes is my baby.
She is passion. She is chaos. She is creativity. She is grace. She is a fire that will never die down.
My business isn’t just a recipe I pulled off the internet. It’s my heart and soul poured into every batter. It’s every failure, every win, every lesson, every late-night experiment. It’s love squeezed into a box that’s honestly way too small to contain it.
I care deeply about my products, my flavours, and your experience. And I’m incredibly grateful to share with you what I do, why I love it, and why I’m good at it.
Welcome to My Kitchen
So heya welcome. Welcome to Rachel’s Kitchen.
P.S.This isn’t my official business launch yet this is just for my holiday bake sale, to keep you on the edge of your seat for the big relaunch next year. 😉
